HOW TO LIVE
EDITORIAL DESIGN, TYPESETTING, ART DIRECTIONHow to Live is a zine typesetting project which aims to highlight the corny and naive nature of self help articles online by juxtaposing it with absurd imagery and chaotic type treatment. The article included in the book is from the website WikiHow, a heavily meme’d entity on the internet. Throughout the zine, the spreads become more sporadic, almost to the point of illegibility to express the exhaustive and frustrating experience of reading simplistic advice on changing your life for the better, which is further exacerbated by the economic condition we live under. These images come from my Are.na channel titled “Real Life Things,” which is a collection of candid photos of moments in life that feel too wacky to not be staged, and yet they are not. Arial, Times New Roman, and Courier were chosen as the typographic palette to express the blandness of the content and reinforce connections to the internet, a crucial aspect of modern day living that furthers our discontent with life.
