WHY DOES GRAPHIC DESIGN MAKE ME SO ANGRY YET SO HORNY?
GRAPHIC DESIGN, MEME DESIGN, STRATEGY, EXPERIENTIAL DESIGN
My BFA thesis exhibition, "Why Does Graphic Design Make Me So Angry Yet So Horny?" delves into the inherent dichotomies within graphic design through themes of meme culture, aesthetics, philosophy, and humor. The exhibition explores the internal conflicts I face as a designer, balancing between the pursuit of professional success and the desire for subversive, playful creativity. Using a semiotic square as the foundation, the work is categorized into success, failure, anti-success, and anti-failure, with each wall representing these concepts. Custom invitations were handed in person to many reknowned graphic design firms in New York City. The show includes posters, a video piece, and printed ephemera, all designed to provoke a conversation about the contradictions and complexities in the field of graphic design. My visual research can be found here, under the guise of a meme folder.
